Sesame seed

Sesamum indicum

Ethiopia is one of the world's largest sesame producers, and sesame is the country's leading oilseed export. We handle the three traded Ethiopian types.

  • HUMERAWhite, high oil content. The premium Ethiopian grade, sought by tahini and confectionery buyers.
  • GONDARWhitish, high oil content. Widely traded.
  • WOLLEGAMixed reddish to brown colour. Used mainly for oil extraction.

Niger seed, noug

Guizotia abyssinica

Native to Ethiopia. A key oilseed for edible oil, and exported for both crushing and the bird feed market. High oil content and rich nutritional value.

We do not publish fixed figures, because the grade that is right for a tahini plant is not the grade that is right for a crusher or a feed mill. Tell us what you buy and we quote against your specification, then confirm it against a sample before the contract is signed.
