    Sesame seed

    Sesamum indicum

    Ethiopia is one of the world's largest sesame producers, and sesame is the country's leading oilseed export. We handle the three traded Ethiopian types.

    • HUMERAWhite, high oil content. The premium Ethiopian grade, sought by tahini and confectionery buyers.
    • GONDARWhitish, high oil content. Widely traded.
    • WOLLEGAMixed reddish to brown colour. Used mainly for oil extraction.

    Guizotia abyssinica

    Native to Ethiopia. A key oilseed for edible oil, and exported for both crushing and the bird feed market. High oil content and rich nutritional value.

    Buying direct from farmers and cooperatives is not a story we tell about ourselves. It is how the quality is controlled. When you know which farm a lot came from, you can do something about it when the grade drifts.
